On October 27, the new edition of the GEM Aragón 2024–2025 Report was presented at the CEPYME Aragón headquarters. This report has been produced continuously for the past 17 years with the support of the Government of Aragón, through the Department of Presidency, Economy and Justice, and the Aragón Emprende Foundation.

The event was opened by Daniel Rey Saura, Managing Director of the Aragonese Institute for Development (IAF), and Consuelo González Gil, Co-director of the Cátedra Emprender (Entrepreneurship Chair) at the University of Zaragoza. The closing remarks were delivered by María Jesús Lorente Ozcáriz, President of CEPYME Aragón.

The report, presented by Lucio Fuentelsaz, co-director of the project, reveals a strong boost in entrepreneurial activity in Aragón. The TEA index (which measures new businesses less than three and a half years old) reached 6.5% of the population, representing an increase of more than 20% compared to 5.4% the previous year.

Among the most relevant findings:

  • The rise in the indicator is mainly explained by an increase in early-stage entrepreneurial initiatives.

  • Business failure rates in Aragón remain below the national average.

  • Potential entrepreneurship reaches 7.3% of the population, while established entrepreneurship stands at 7.0%.

  • Over 40% of entrepreneurs aim to make a difference in the world, 43% to create wealth, 58% out of necessity, and 17% to continue a family tradition.

  • Youth entrepreneurship has grown significantly, affecting 8.2% of individuals under 35.

  • The average size of new firms remains small, with only 6% employing more than six people.

Following the presentation, a roundtable discussion was held, moderated by Ana Aínsa Montes, featuring Avelina Bellostas Ara, Jesús Blasco Marco, and Nieves García Casarejos. The session focused on some of the main challenges and priorities of Aragón’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.

The importance of the report has attracted broad media coverage, with articles and features published today in outlets such as El Economista, Diario del Alto Aragón, and Heraldo de Aragón, highlighting the findings and the positive outlook for entrepreneurship in the region.
