On March 9, 2026, a research seminar organized by the LIDEERA Research Group took place at the Faculty of Economics and Business of the Universidad de Zaragoza. The seminar, entitled “Theorizing Strategies and Strategies for Theorizing”, was delivered by Anoop Madhok (York University). The session was held at 12:00 in Room 16B.

Professor Madhok is Professor of Strategy and Scotiabank Chair in International Business and Entrepreneurship at the Schulich School of Business (York University). His research lies at the intersection of strategic management and international business, with a particular focus on competitive advantage, interfirm collaboration, economic organization, and the boundaries of the firm, as well as, more recently, the governance of platforms and digital ecosystems.

The seminar addressed a central question in strategy research: how to build better theory, highlighting the debate between theory-driven and phenomenon-driven approaches. In this context, key aspects of theory development were discussed, including what constitutes theory, the role of hypotheses and propositions, and the importance of abductive reasoning in generating stronger explanations.

The session sparked a dynamic and enriching discussion among participants, underscoring the importance of methodological reflection in academic research.

The seminar provided an excellent opportunity for advancing theoretical development in strategy and fostering academic exchange among group members and other participating researchers.
